Five Fantastic Techniques to Develop Self Control and Teach Anger Management For Children

Anger management for children has never been more important. The modern world seems to be pressing more stress buttons on kids that teaching and learning how to deal with their rage should be every parent’s priority.

When you hear the term “anger management”, it actually points out to the very virtue of self control. Self control is what you need to instill in your children so they would know how to stay calm and handle their outbursts well when the need arises. To teach self control, here are the five tested techniques to follow:

Make them aware of the warning signs—It is an important part of anger management for children to help the kids identify the warning signs of anger such as palpitations, flushing cheeks, clenching fists, and the likes. The more they become aware of these signals, the better they would be able to calm themselves down and control their behavior.

Model coolness– As the cliché goes: Practice what you preach. Show your kids you can keep your cool even during the most upsetting times. “I will go out for a while and keep my cool before we talk about that broken vase.” Although this may be very challenging, it can significantly benefit your kid.

Help them express themselves– Aggressive kids are more likely the kids who do not know how to express their frustrations through words. To prevent your child from being aggressive, help him or her develop an emotion vocabulary. Let him or her learn how to say “I am angry,” “I’m irritated,” or “I’m nervous” and make it clear that it is normal to feel all these strong emotions among others.

Teach how to self-talk—Talking to the self may sound a little funny but it actually helps a lot when it comes to developing self control. Teach your kids how to pacify themselves by saying “Take a deep breath,” “Stop and calm down,” or “I can do this.”

Teach proper breathing—Teaching how to breathe the right way is an important part of child anger management too. Proper breathing is a method for relaxation and relaxing is crucial during stressful times.
